The Ask

They always answer our call.

Now it’s time we answer theirs.

We are calling on NYC leadership to fund EMS pay parity, settle a fair contract, strengthen benefits, and expand mental-health support for EMTs and paramedics.

This event is designed to move the conversation forward by helping more people understand what EMS professionals give to this city every day and ensuring that the leaders with the power to create change hear their call.

Why This Matters

They show up when it matters most.

Every day, EMTs and paramedics answer calls that can change a life in seconds.

They enter homes, stairwells, highways, subways, schools, businesses, and neighborhoods at the moments when people are most vulnerable.

They bring skill. They bring calm. They bring compassion. They bring people home.

They have been doing it for generations and will continue answering the call for generations to come.

Still Answering

Service before, during, and long after.

September 11 remains one of the defining moments in New York City history.

We remember the first responders who ran toward danger. We remember the victims, the families, the survivors, and the communities forever changed by that day.

But the story of EMS did not begin on September 11. And it did not end there.

Long before that day, EMTs and paramedics were serving New York. In the decades since, they have continued to respond through emergencies, disasters, public-health crises, ordinary shifts, extraordinary moments, and millions of calls that never make the news.

This event honors those who came before, those serving today, and those who will answer the call tomorrow.

Come watch the story behind the uniform—and stand with the people who answer the calls no one else wants to take.

More Than Thank You

Appreciation must mean more than applause.

For years, first responders have been praised when tragedy strikes.

Praise matters. Recognition matters. But appreciation must mean more than applause.

EMS professionals continue to face issues involving pay parity, contracts, benefits, emotional exhaustion, mental-health support, and the long-term realities of doing work that repeatedly places them on the frontline of life and death.

The people we depend on should know they can depend on us.

Share Your EMS Story

Their stories are the story.

Are you a current or retired EMT or paramedic?

Has EMS ever shown up for you, your family, a friend, your workplace, or your neighborhood?

Were you there during a moment that people should remember?

Share your experience.

Tell people what happened. Tell them who showed up. Tell them what EMS means to you.

Current and former EMS professionals are also invited to tell the stories behind the uniform, from moments of pride and purpose to the realities most people never see.

Your story can help another person understand why this conversation matters.

This Conversation Needs All of Us

If you’ve ever called on EMS, you belong in this conversation.

This event is for current and retired EMTs and paramedics, 9/11 families, survivors and affected communities, healthcare professionals, fellow first responders, labor and community leaders, NYC and New York State decision-makers, families whose lives have been touched by EMS, and every New Yorker who has ever depended on someone answering the call.
